Helensburgh lies between the main city centres of Sydney and Wollongong and is surrounded by National Park, bushland and beaches. The township developed after coal was discovered in the area over 100 years ago. Helensburgh Public School was opened in 1887 and is the most northern school in the area of the NSW coast known as the Illawarra region. Our school has 480 students in 19 classes from Kindergarten to Year 6.

Our school is student welfare centred and provides a stong literacy and numeracy foundation for lifelong learning. We offer a wide range of programs including Reading Recovery, Peer Support, Hubbard Street, Count Me In Too, SRC, buddy reading, parent helpers, band, choir and PSSA sport. Helensburgh Public School has a strong technology program with a widely recognised Intranet where all students have their own website. We also have award winning environmental education programs and we are part of the 'Solar in Schools' program.

The construction of our new library, classrooms and administration block was completed term 4 of 2008. Together with our new school hall, canteen and covered outdoor learning area, this 'state of the art' infrastructure provides a fantastic environment to enhance our students' learning.

One of the main purposes of our website is to showcase our students' work and also what has been happening in our school. We hope you enjoy this range of published work from Kindergarten to Year 6.
